Woopra - so close, yet...

I've got a real love-hate relationship with Woopra web stats.

Whilst they offer a generally terrific set of stats, they fall down big time on two points:
  1. They require you to dick around with your firewall
  2. You can't access the stats on an iPad
Re point 1, this is just plain silly. No other stats I know of require you to go anywhere near your firewall, and that's exactly as it should be. My understanding is that the requirement is there so you can chat with your visitors in real-time, something I never do, as it scares the shit out of them when they realise somebody's able to watch them. So, there should be an option to switch this off and not then have to mess with your firewall.

This may seem a minor irritant, but it's more than that. I use their iPhone app (which has a horrible habit of logging you out - so make that 3 issues). I generally leave WiFi on on my iPhone so, of course, if I'm out and about using public WiFi, I can't access my stats without first switching off WiFi and hoping I have data coverage. (Well, I guess I could go ask the owner of the hotspot to open some ports for me - I'm sure they'd be happy to oblige).

Re point 2, this is just plain crazy. I love the quote on their forum:
the iPad is still not ready for this app
Ha. I hope they've had a word with Mr Jobs to make sure the next iPad works with their software okay! I have mentioned to them that you generally get the software working with the hardware, not the other way around.

I've also mentioned to them that they'll never make major league with these limitations, but they don't seem terribly interested.

I love their stats, but they ain't much use if I can't access them half the time.
